"Summer time and the livin is easy..."
Not at Burtonwood Sewing Group... but we wouldn't have it any other way! The weather was glorious and the crowd was fantastic. Thank you for making us feel at home.
We've supported Newton Town Show for some years but last year we were asked to get involved with the Arts and Craft exhibition. This year was a marked improvement on previous years with both entries and organisation. Well done to all concerned! Newton is our nearest town and families and friends live in and around the area. Much like Burtonwood the old firms and works have disappeared. If you didn't work in Burtonwood you would no doubt work in Newton/Earlestown. Newton le Willows College of FE was where almost every apprentice served their time. The "Show" has always been a great place to meet old friends. Long may that continue!
We go along mainly to showcase our work and raise funds for our project. This year each member made a Dresden Plate which then got pieced together to form a block, the block then got stitched together to make a quilt. 550 pieces of material were sewn together (no, we didn't count the man hours) to produce a rather magnificent double bed sized quilt which we raffled for £1 per ticket. We raised £224.00 on the quilt alone! The lucky number was 177 and the winner was Helen who, we believe, is thrilled with her quilt!
We thank each and every one of the public for supporting us on the day. It's always
great to meet up with old friends. A big thanks also to the organisers who put so much effort into this. It's all down to their commitment.
