Ikea summer project 2017
It’s been our pleasure to provide sewing/textile crafting projects in the great IKEA, Warrington this summer. We’ve been ideally placed yet again in the textile section of the store and made to feel very welcome. Take a look at our video above to see some of the highlights!
There’s been more interest this year from all age ranges which has been great. We went with something easy and quick to make that allowed the children (and adults) to use a sewing machine. Everyone did a fantastic job and they loved working the machines – just got to say though, the boys took to it like ducks to water! Great listening and understanding all round.
The customers come from far and wide: all over Wales, the Potteries, Portugal and even China. Marta and Valentine from Lytham St Annes came with their granddaughters and spent an hour with us. (Marta now has the notion of setting up a sewing group in her community, unfortunately for Valentine he’s got to buy Marta a new sewing machine!) Henriqueta from Portugal was buying IKEA’s net curtains to make into fresh vegetable produce bags “back home”! We met Cathy and her family from the Wirral, makers of soft furnishings and curtains, who has offered to let us have all their off cuts. Last but not least we met Shirley who spotted the sewing machines and just fancied coming over for a chat. We all thought she’d come straight off the catwalk in London – not so… she’s a local lady who signed up to become a volunteer! We did put her to the test by having her make the 2017 IKEA/BSG "limited edition" Tissue Holder/ Pokermon card holder.
Big thanks once again to Clare Ryan and Paul Fishwick (IKEA) and of course our BSG volunteer members who make it all possible.
Can’t believe we’ve only one more session left to do!
